During the period spent at the Lama Tzong Khapa Institute, H.E. Ling Rinpoche visited and blessed the site of our future monastery.
This is his short speech that we want to share with you.
“So today I’m very happy to here, in this place. I feel this is very necessary especially for the teachings of the Buddha to remain. Of course, we have Dharma centres, we have Dharma study groups and you all do your best to study in order to progress in your practice but still, a monastic community and a monastery makes much, much more difference. So, there’s one in Nalanda, right, in France which I have visited. Very, very inspiring but also in such a place like this [it would be good], I think.
It is said that even one who has achieved complete nirvana [liberation], achieved [even the state of an] arhat, even the arhats, whether the teachings of the Buddha will remain or not, it is dependent on the sangha [monastic communitity]. Even if there is a group of arhats, that is not considered [sufficient] for the teachings of the Buddha to remain. So whether the teachings of the Buddha will remain or not depends on the sangha communitity. So that is very important; that you [succeed].
Although you have gone through a lot of obstacles, you have I think, overcome already a lot, so I hope you will be able to complete this project in order to benefit a lot of people, I mean, in order to benefit [all] sentient beings. And that through this monastery, I hope that you will [cause] the teachings of the Buddha to flourish. So you have my prayers and my best wishes.
I don’t have any more specific things to tell you. So you must carry on, and from time to time, we will get together and discuss more. Thank you”.
