Discovering Buddhism n°7 The Three Jewels

Ven. Olivier Rossi – Discovering Buddhism –  The refuge in the Three Jewels
Awakens all the unlimited potential of your mind, obtaining peace and happiness

Over 2,500 years ago, Sakyamuni Buddha has realized the direct knowledge of the nature of reality, he perfected the qualities of wisdom, compassion, and the power, and revealed the path for his disciples. In the 11th century, Atisha brought these teachings to Tibet in the form of the lam-rim – the stages on the path to enlightenment. The tradition of lam-rim has found its climax in the teachings of the great saint Tibetan Lama Tsongkhapa in the 14th century, and these teachings have been transmitted from teacher to student until today.

When Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche transmitted these teachings to their disciples, they have imparted a deeply experiential tradition of study and practice, which brings thousands of people looking to find out the truth of what the Buddha taught. This tradition is the heart of “Discovering Buddhism”

7th meeting “The refuge in the three jewels”

Taking refuge in the Three Jewels – Buddha (the guide), the Dharma (the realization of the truth of things), and the Sangha (the spiritual community) – is the door to enter the Buddhist path. Taking refuge means going in a certain direction in order to obtain protection from suffering and the various difficulties of life, through a better understanding of the reality of things. We will examine the various objects and types of shelter, the way to take refuge and the reasons for it, in the words of many of Lam-Rim teachers and texts (the gradual path).
