Saka Dawa

The day of Saka Dawa is the recurrence of Enlightenment, the entry into parinirvana and the birth of Buddha Shakyamuni.
It is a special day in which the actions performed have a much "greater" potential in giving the corresponding results. So engaging in positive actions that create happiness, well-being, peace and growth will be of great benefit because the results that will accrue will be considerable, the merits are multiplied.

The same is true for destructive actions that create suffering for ourselves and others and we should therefore try to avoid them.

On the day of Saka Dawa one engages in purification and accumulation of merit practices such as the withdrawal of the Nyu nye, the taking of the eight precepts and in any other practice that inspires us and with which we feel familiar, such as making offerings of light ( candles), flowers, prostrations, sutra readings.

Staying with an altruistic mind in our places of responsibility and sharing in daily life, awareness and generosity will also create a lot of merit and benefit us and others.

Specific practices recommended by Lama Zopa Rinpoche for the days that multiply the merits

There are four great holy days in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar, each of which celebrates the anniversary when Buddha Shakyamuni performed extraordinarily powerful deeds for the benefit of sentient beings. In these four days, the karmic results of actions are multiplied by 100 million, as taught in the Vinaya text “Treasure of Quotations and Logic”.
